Jennie preaching] William James was the nineteenth and twentieth century American philosopher who essentially said: If you want to know what a man believes, look at how he acts; you can see what a person’s faith is by the way they live their life. His philosophy of pragmatism is ingrained in our American way of life. And the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson, was influenced by William James’s book, Varieties of Religious Experience, in his development of that original twelve-step program and its philosophy.
